A successful import does not tell you whether your new store is ready to sell. Products may be present while variants are assigned incorrectly, images are missing or important links lead nowhere. What matters to customers is whether they can find and order the right product.
This is where the Lightport Migration Suite comes in. It helps our team analyse store data that has grown over time, prepare its transfer and check the results in the destination system. For you, this means seeing what already works, where further work is needed and which decisions remain open before the move.
What an import count cannot tell you
Imagine a shoe available in several sizes. The product has been created in the new store. But are the variants, their SKUs and their associated images correct? Does a link from an older buying guide still lead to the right product? Will customers using a saved URL reach the correct page?
These connections are easily missed when checks focus only on quantities. That is why we consider products, content, media and URLs together during a store migration.
A look inside the Lightport Migration Suite
Four areas show what this preparation means in practice:
1. Map products and variants clearly
The suite prepares product and variant data for transfer. This includes SKUs, option values, images, SEO titles and meta descriptions. After approved transfers, data is read back from the destination system and checked. This establishes whether the intended mapping has actually been applied.
2. Preserve the work invested in your content
Product descriptions, guides and category pages often represent years of editorial work. Embedded images, videos and internal links should remain usable after the move. The suite supports HTML preparation and the relinking of media and unambiguous internal destinations. Unclear mappings remain open for review.
3. Give existing URLs a suitable destination
An old link may come from Google, a newsletter or a saved bookmark. We prepare appropriate destination mappings and redirects, then check them for conflicts, chains and loops. This provides a technical foundation for the platform change. It does not guarantee unchanged search engine rankings.
4. Make outstanding issues visible before launch
Check results are brought together in a clear overview: which areas have been checked, where are the discrepancies and what is still missing from the agreed migration scope? A completed product import does not mean that stock levels, redirects and the final cutover are also complete.
Prepare first, then check the destination store
We separate planning from the actual transfer. A preparatory dry run shows the proposed changes without writing them to the destination store. A subsequently approved test migration helps assess the results in the target environment.
We also review the store from a customer’s perspective: selected product variants, categories, navigation, important content, ordering processes and the mobile experience. Technical findings and real use of the store belong together.
For the final cutover, we agree on the current data snapshot, any necessary follow-up imports and responsibilities. Stock and other time-sensitive data require a separate reconciliation shortly before launch.
Automation needs clear decisions
The suite supports the technical work; business decisions stay with the project team. Which content should move? How should categories be structured in future? Which special cases need targeted checks? We work through these questions with you.
The implemented migration focus is Lightspeed C-Series to Shopify. We assess whether, and to what extent, other source and destination systems can be supported for each project. Specific data areas, such as customer and address data or custom extensions, are also evaluated and approved separately within the project.

What does this mean for your store migration?
You gain a more reliable basis for defining the scope, preparation and acceptance of your platform move. Issues can be discussed and addressed before the new store goes live. The checks that make sense depend on your catalogue, content and the systems involved.
